• Guardians of Galaxy: Vol 3

    From Ash@VERT to DOVE-Net.Entertainment on Sunday, September 10, 2023 20:05:48
I wanted to share that I watched the new Guardians of the Galaxy movie
that came out and it really surprised me.

The focus of the movie was not to protect the galaxy/universe as
previous movie somewhat lead to, instead it was more of a movie that was filling in the back story of one of the characters. Surprisingly dark
    and unsettling.

The overall plot on its own is a bit ridiculous, but the back story/lore
of one of the characters was pretty intense and I really enjoyed the
movie for that reason, even though the wider plot sucked.

I don't really know what to think of this movie, but it has me still
thinking about it days later, clearly touched me in some way.

Saw it in the theater, and I gotta say, I liked it. It was probably better than any other movie I saw this year.. that includes Indy and M:I and everything else. While I still haven't seen Oppenheimer, I'm gonna guess Guardians 3 is still more entertaining.

Out of curiosity: have you watched the Dungeons and Dragons one?

I was going to skip it because the franchise was wearing thin for me, but I gotgood references and I did go watch it. It had a bit of a Guardians of the
    Galaxy vibe.

D&D was .. just a movie. They tried to stay true to the D&D story types, but of course had to add holywood and probably leave some stuff out that would've looked stupid on screen, etc. It was just OK, and probably not even that if you're not into fantasy stories, or if you ARE into fantasy stories but you hate when they do them wrong :). It didn't need any romance crap, that's for sure.

Worth watching maybe while doing something, but not in the theater.

I am a D&D nerd and I appreciated they included some D&D + Forgotten Realms lore without making the game unpalatable for regular people. In fact, the regular people I watched it with liked it. I think this achievement cannot be overstated.

Cheap humor felt much less cheaper than it does with movies that target similaraudiences (Disney, I am looking at you).

I found it to be a fine movie if you take it for what it is: a silly fantasy heist movie without any pretentions of being something else.

An attempt at a fantasy movie for the masses, maybe :).
Yeah, I enjoyed it, but most of the people I'm around are pickier about movies than I.
